Arbitration Summer School
From June 26 to 29, 2025, the American University of Armenia hosted the Arbitration Summer School, bringing together professionals and students interested in the field. The main objective of the event was to enhance the participants' professional capacity in arbitration.
The school was organized through the joint initiative of the Arbitrators’ Association of Armenia and the American University of Armenia. From ELL Partnership Law Firm, lectures were delivered by the firm’s founding partner Taron Simonyan and senior attorney Gohar Avagyan. The firm’s lawyer Alvina Vardanyan also participated in the program as an attendee.
▪️ Taron Simonyan, also a member of the Board of the Arbitrators’ Association of Armenia, delivered a lecture on the types of arbitration (commercial and investment), their core differences, the legal standing of parties in investment arbitration (including dual/multiple nationality issues), and the main international instruments used in investment disputes, such as ICSID and bilateral investment treaties (BITs). He also addressed the specific features of state entities’ participation in arbitral proceedings.
▪️ Gohar Avagyan presented the mechanisms of recognition, challenge, and enforcement of foreign and investment arbitral awards, placing particular emphasis on the provisions of the New York Convention and related practical considerations.
The school included both theoretical and practical components, giving participants a unique opportunity to apply their knowledge through a simulated arbitration process.
ELL Partnership Law Firm remains committed to supporting the development of arbitration in Armenia and to engaging in educational and practice-oriented legal initiatives. It should be noted that, as part of its social responsibility, the firm also participated in the Summer School as a gold sponsor.
